Freshman Application Process

Participation in the University Honors Program involves a separate application, available only after applying for admission to the university. Applicants to CSU with a minimum 3.7 GPA (4.0 scale) are invited to apply to the Honors Program and receive a link to the Honors application by email and in their RAMweb application status page. CSU applicants who have not received an invitation to apply for Honors can request access to the Honors application by contacting the Office of Admissions at (970) 491-6909. Because the Honors Program application is tied to the application for admission, all materials submitted to CSU for an admission decision also can be considered in the Honors Program review.

Honors Program applications are reviewed only once a student has been admitted to CSU. Acceptance is offered on a rolling basis, and students are usually notified within two weeks after they have been admitted to the University and their Honors Program application is complete. Space in the program is limited, and early applicants have a much better chance of being admitted. Qualified students who apply after the program is full will be put on a waitlist. Only applicants for the fall semester are considered for Honors Program acceptance as new students.

Application Overview

The Honors Program application consists of a brief online application form with short-answer essay responses to four prompts and an evaluation from a high school teacher. A current email address for the person providing the evaluation is part of the application.

Applications will not be reviewed until you've been admitted to Colorado State University AND a complete application (including personal statement and teacher evaluation) has been received by the Honors office. A minimum GPA of 3.7 is required to be accepted into the University Honors Program as an incoming freshman.

Teacher Recommendation

A teacher who has been directly involved in your education must submit a recommendation on your behalf. You will be asked for an email address for the teacher in your honors application. Your reference will be contacted with instructions about how to submit the recommendation. You will receive an email from us when the teacher recommendation has been sent.

Honors Program Application Priority Date

When both components of the application have been received, your application will be reviewed. In some cases, we may ask for additional information before making a final decision. After the priority deadline has passed, students will only be considered if there are extenuating circumstances involved.

Honors Program Admissions Decisions
Offers of admission to the Honors Program are conditional upon high school graduation and satisfactory completion of, and performance in, senior year course work.

Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

There is an automatic scholarship available for freshmen entering the Honors Program in the Fall of 2017. In addition, CSU offers merit-based scholarships to both resident and non-resident entering freshmen. Specific information about the Honors scholarship and the CSU merit scholarships for entering freshmen is listed in more detail below. Students who wish to apply for financial assistance from CSU should complete the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as the Colorado State University Scholarship Application (CSUSA). More information about applying for financial assistance can be found on the Student Financial Services website.
