Instructor: Zach Hutchins

Offered Fall semester.

In this class, students, will journey to Oz, the apocalyptic intermountain West, and many other fantastical settings only to gain a clearer and more nuanced view of the nation and reality they’ve just left. Drawing on that perspective—and in conversation with the author of the fantastic modern American fairy tale Silenced, CSU’s own Ann Claycomb—students will create their own digital, interactive fairy tales. Featuring classic works of cinema directed by Steven Spielberg and other greats, as well as texts written by Washington Irving, W. E. B. DuBois, Mourning Dove, and Rebecca Roanhorse, this is a course that will transport and delight while illustrating the deadly seriousness of child’s play.
