Incomplete Requests for HONR 499
Honors Thesis Incomplete Policy and Procedure
Requesting an incomplete is a significant academic decision. It should not be taken lightly as it requires careful consideration and a clear commitment from student and advisor alike. The University Honors Program follows the CSU Incomplete Grades guidelines. Here is Honors’ specific policy for the thesis.
FOR HONR 399 (Honors Pre-Thesis)
No incompletes will be extended. If students are struggling to meet the requirements in HONR 399, they are encouraged to look at withdraw dates and plan to take HONR 399 in a future semester.
FOR HONR 499 (Honors Thesis)
Incompletes are granted only under extenuating circumstances that are “beyond the student’s control and not reasonably foreseeable” in accordance with CSU policy. If a student meets these criteria, the thesis advisor may request an “I” (Incomplete) for the HONR 499 semester. This request must include: (1) circumstance that warrants an incomplete as outlined in the CSU policy, (2) indication that a substantial portion of the work has already been satisfactorily completed, and (3) a detailed and feasible plan for completion, including specific dates for submission and presentation.
Request for an Incomplete in HONR 499 must be submitted by the thesis advisor no later than December 1 (for Fall semester) or May 1 (for Spring semester).
