Spur Start Honors gives high-achieving CSU Spur Start students a direct pathway into the Colorado State University Honors Program. You’ll begin building the skills, relationships, and academic experiences that define Honors while completing your first year at CSU Spur, then continue seamlessly in the Honors Program after transitioning to the Fort Collins campus.

Why Join Spur Start Honors?

Spur Start Honors lets you take advantage of the opportunities and benefits of the University Honors Program from your first year, setting you up for continued success when you transition to the Fort Collins campus. As a Spur Start Honors student, you’ll enjoy:

  • A $4,000 Honors scholarship, awarded in equal installments over eight semesters ($500 per semester) as long as you remain in good standing in the Honors Program.
  • Small, discussion-based Honors courses that encourage curiosity, collaboration, and meaningful engagement with faculty and peers.

Eligibility

All active Spur Start students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) are eligible to opt into Spur Start Honors. Weighted GPAs are accepted. No application is required.  Simply complete the Spur Start Honors Intent Form by August 1st.

Requirements at CSU Spur

Before transitioning to the Fort Collins campus, Spur Start Honors students must complete:

  • IU 172A (Spur Start Learning Community) during both the fall and spring semesters
  • CO 150 (or an approved equivalent through transfer, AP, or IB credit)

Continuing in Honors at Fort Collins

After transitioning to the Fort Collins campus, Spur Start Honors students continue in the Honors Program ( Honors Track 2). To graduate from the University Honors Program, students complete:

  • 3 credits of HONR 292 (Honors Seminar)
  • 1 credit of HONR 399 (Pre-Thesis)
  • 3 credits of HONR 499 (Honors Thesis)
  • 13 credits of upper-division Honors coursework (300-level or above) in your major, minor, or another area of academic interest. These upper-division Honors credits may begin while you are enrolled at the Spur campus, provided they are 300-level or higher.

Maintaining Honors Status

To remain in the Honors Program and retain your Honors scholarship, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward completing the Honors curriculum.

If you're eligible and interested in joining Spur Start Honors, simply complete the Spur Start Honors Intent Form by August 1st to secure your place in the program. You will need to provide your name, CSU ID, and confirm your GPA (weighted GPA is accepted).
