Departmental Honors Pathway: Honors Track 2

Emphasizing Honors Courses Within the Disciplines.

Honors@CSU welcomes applications from students currently enrolled at Colorado State University as well as those transferring to CSU from another college or university into the Departmental Honors Track 2 pathway. We are looking for highly motivated students who aspire to explore important questions in today’s society, to build healthy and inclusive communities, and to do so within an environment that encourages interdisciplinary connections and effective dialogue. The Honors Program is a community of scholars who support one another, challenge one another, and who celebrate our differences.

Whereas students who enter Honors in their first year tend to focus on a core sequence of interdisciplinary seminars, Track 2 emphasizes Honors courses within a student’s major(s) or minor(s) instead. Track 2 students take discipline-specific Honors courses that not only count toward their major or minor requirements, but also feature opportunities for collaborative projects, increased faculty interactions, enhanced learning, and independent research. In addition to taking 18 credits of Honors-enriched curriculum within their discipline(s), students will also take an interdisciplinary sophomore Honors seminar that can satisfy one of three AUCC requirements. All Honors students complete an Honors Thesis.

Admission and Eligibility Requirements

  • Pursuing a CSU major that participates in Track 2 programming.*
  • At least 12 credits completed at CSU or transfer institution.
  • A minimum of three full-time semesters at CSU remaining.
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA at time of application.

*Since the majority of the Track 2 curriculum falls within academic departments, not all majors are able to support an Honors Track 2 program. Application and Review Process

There are no deadlines for current CSU students or transfer students to apply.  Potential Honors scholars will use the link below to request access to the online application, which requires responses to several short-answer questions as well as contact information for a faculty member or advisor who can speak to your academic potential in the Honors program. Your recommender should ideally be a CSU faculty member or advisor, or a faculty member from another university.

The entire application evaluation process is overseen by the University Honors Program and is based on the following criteria:

  • Academic achievement since beginning college.
  • Desire, ability, and motivation to dig deeper into topics of interest and ultimately conduct research or creative projects leading to the completion of an undergraduate Honors thesis.
  • Interest in and aptitude for interdisciplinary learning and effective dialogue within a community of scholars.

The faculty and/or administrators in your major department will evaluate your application and make the final admission decision. That decision will be communicated to you via email by the Honors Program on a rolling basis.
