What is an Honors Student Ambassador?

Ambassadors are charged with supporting recruitment and retention efforts.  These student leaders among the Honors community are passionate about the program, are a welcoming resource for prospective and current CSU students.  They lead tours and informaitional sessions in Academic Village during the school year and during the summer.  They promote Honors at various large-scale Admissions events such as “Choose CSU,” “Scholars Day,” and themed game-day events.  In addition to answering questions prospective students may have about the program, they also work to create community-building events such as Nerd Prom and Spring Carnival.

Connect with an Ambassador

Honors Ambassadors would be happy to answer additional questions from prospective students about the program and how to apply.  Ambassadors have different majors and interests, and they are in different points in their educational journey.  Here is some information about each ambassador.  If someone is on a similar path to the one you are considering, you may reach out to them specifically and ask questions.

How Honors has helped you at CSU/what is your favorite part about Honors?

The Honors Program has helped me reach my goals by inspiring me to do better each and every day. When I toured the Honors Program as a junior in high school, I immediately knew this was the place for me because of the encouraging can-do attitude of all the students and professors, which was highly inspirational to me then and continues to inspire me in my academic journey here at CSU.

What are some of your areas of interest or cool things you get to do?

Outside of the Honors Program, I am involved in a few different organizations. I am the Public Relations Officer for MEDLIFE, a non-profit humanitarian organization that aims to provide medical care to low-income communities around the world. This summer, we are going to San Jose, Costa Rica and I cannot wait! Additionally, I volunteer in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Poudre Valley Hospital, and I am a member of Greek life.

What are some of your areas of interest or cool things you get to do?

I chose my major because I was profoundly interested in the natural world and the other creatures that call it home. As a Fish and Wildlife Conservation major, I have had a lot of opportunities to get hands on experience working with natural resources from taking a field course in the mountains to going electrofishing for one of my classes. I am also interested in going to Law school when I graduate, and I've gotten the opportunity to be the Secretary of the Pre-Law Club where we get to tour law schools and hear directly from professionals working with the law every day.

What advice do you have for prospective, new students?

College is an adventure that is sometimes pretty difficult, so don't hesitate to take advantage of every resource made available to you. If you are in the honors program here at CSU, you get a couple extra of these resources. Most importantly, just make sure to take care of yourself so that you can make the most out of your time in college!

What made you choose to come to CSU?

I chose to came to CSU because I thought the culture was very warm and welcoming. I had toured a few other colleges, but nothing felt like home in the same way CSU did.

How Honors has helped you at CSU/what is your favorite part about Honors?

Because of honors, I was able to find my first research experience and study abroad in Quito, Ecuador while designing prosthetics for those in need. I was also able to meet some of my best friends today through honors freshman year.

What made you choose to come to CSU?

Coming from Fort Collins, I grew up exposed to CSU and its traditions. I was raised going to volleyball and football games, watching the Homecoming parade, and volunteering for Cans Around the Oval. I loved hearing stories from my grandparents and great aunt and uncle about when they went to CSU. When it was finally time for me to decide on a college, it was an easy decision. I already felt at home at CSU!

What advice do you have for prospective, new students?

My number one piece of advice for prospective students is to say ‘yes’ to as many different opportunities as you can. Whether it be a job, club, or leadership position, saying yes is one of the most important things you can do. It will open unexpected doors, introduce you to new people, and ultimately give you the opportunity to learn more about yourself.

What are some of your areas of interest or cool things you get to do?

I am so proud to say that I am the founder and president of the Club Mock Trial Team at CSU. Additionally, I am employed with Student Legal Services on campus and have continuously served on the Elections Committee for the ASCSU Student Body Elections. Off campus, I am constantly hanging out with my friends. Fort Collins is home to the greatest people you will ever meet!

What advice do you have for prospective, new students?

My advice to prospective students is to get involved in anything and everything that sparks your interest. You will find your passions, your best friends, and yourself by doing so.

What are some of your areas of interest or cool things you get to do?

I am learning Korean and planning to study abroad at Seoul, Korea to enhance my knowledge of what business is like outside of America. Things I do in my free time are play video games and hang out with friends. I love music and will always have an earbud in to calm my anxiety and fidgeting. I can play 5 instruments, but I still need lots of practice!

What is your favorite part about the Honors Program?

My favorite part about honors is the honor seminars. These classes are small so I can talk to my professor easier and that they know my name. Instead of taking huge classes of 200 students about American history or public speaking, I can learn about Shakespeare and different takes on it in films. The professors are also so passionate about what they teach, and just being in the class where they lecture the whole time is still super fun.

How Honors has helped you at CSU/what is your favorite part about Honors?

I feel that the Honors approach to learning has shaped me into the independent person I am today. I understand the value in a challenge, not because of the academic success or validation it may provide, but because of the way it may push me as an individual. My favorite part of Honors is rooted in the people and support that is cultivated in the classroom and through faculty and staff.

What advice do you have for prospective, new students?

My adivce for prospective students is simpe: risk it for the biscuit! As an out of state student I know college is scary, let alone getting involved once you get to campus. However, it is all worth the risk, I can promise you that. The abilty and willingness to put yourself out there will be more rewarding that you know.

What made you come to CSU?

I choose to come to CSU partly because of Honors! I toured CSU in the spring of my senior year of high school, and I toured Academic Village and the Honors program, and I felt right at home. I knew CSU was the right place for me. When I was touring CSU, I saw CAM the Ram walking out on the sidewalk by Moby within 30 seconds of being on campus. When telling tour guides about this experience, they all said that was so rare, seeing CAM just out for a walk! It definitely felt like a sign that CSU was the place for me.

What advice do you have for prospective, new students?

My biggest advice for new students is to give yourself time to adjust. There is so much put on new students to love your life at college every day, and that simply is not true. Everyone will have bad days, and that first semester and year can be difficult at times as you adjust to a whole different environment and way of living. My biggest piece of advice is to take care of yourself and give yourself time to adjust to this very new, strange way of life your first semester. Remember honors is here for you with anything you need.
